Build a scorecard

Choose five criteria that matter to you: accuracy, usability, privacy, export options and overall cost. Assign each criterion an importance level before testing. Avoid changing the rules to favor a particular product after seeing results.

Use identical inputs

Give each service the same sample documents and instructions, without sensitive information. Test straightforward requests, unclear requests and requests that require admitting uncertainty.

Record what actually happened

For every trial, save the prompt, output, mistakes and time spent correcting the result. Note whether features are available on the plan you tested. A feature described in marketing is not the same as a feature you verified.

Make your own decision

A useful tool depends on your workflow. Choose the service that meets your actual requirements, not the one with the most impressive headline. Recheck plans and capabilities when they change.
